Hi Vicky!

I'm glad things have been going well with the painting and color in your house! I'm also glad to hear that your instincts about color for your bedroom are good too! I agree, that a red wall with a red carpet sounds too intense, especially with the pinkish tones of Sand Dollar. A contrasting color like blue or gray blue sounds restful and soothing while creating interesting contrast to the red rug. Still, it may be tricky to find the right blue with this pinkish tone too. May I recommend looking at a warmer, more golden neutral like Sherwin-William 6106 Kilim Beige or even 6105 Divine White because they will balance better with blue tones. I like Divine White with 6234 Uncertain Gray, but also look at 6235 Foggy Day and 6242 Bracing Blue.

I'd love to see the before AND after photos so if you're having trouble posting them here, load them into www.flickr.com or some other public photo site and make a public folder so I can open it. When the folder is set up and loaded, copy and past the url link to me here on the Forum and I'll be able to see those photos.

I'd like to see after photos of the rest of your house too. You've been working really hard at this and I'd like to see what you've accomplished! Looking forward to it! 

Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. I looked on the Sherwin Williams website and I love your color choices. The only thing is that our painters use Dunn Edwards paint. That said, they can color match it or if you have similar colors in Dunn Edwards, that will work also. As you suggested, I uploaded the pictures onto flickr. The link is below. I want your opinion on this. I have an old wood coffee table which is very long and narrow. It is from 1961. I took it out of my parent's house and it is sitting in the garage. I was thinking of painting it the crimson color and antiquing it a bit and putting it at the end of our bed. Do you think it would look ok? We have this eclectic thing going on in our house. Old world vs modern or shabby chic? I am not sure what to call it. We have lived all over the world and collected old tibetan chests, furniture, copper and rugs. I promise I will send all of the after pictures this time. Anyway, we decided to get a king bed not long after getting our new furniture. There was wrought iron on our old bed so that is where the idea of the rod iron bed came in. I was thinking of a large photo or even a decal for behind the bed with a pop of color. There you have it. Hi Shannon, Thanks for getting back to me so promptly. I replied back to you earlier but I don't know what happened to the post so I am trying again. The only thing is that our painters work with Dunn Edwards. Do you know of similar colors or should I try to have them match it. Another thing is , Should we paint the entire room blue and then lead into the bathroom with a neutral color or just keep with the one wall behind the bed blue? I was watching HGTV last night so that is where I got the idea to paint every wall. Lastly, don't mind the junk in the room. Work in progress. And, I was thinking of painting this old long wood coffee table (circa 1961) I have red and putting it at the end of the bed. It is long enough. What do you think about that.  The flickr photos didn't work. But suffice it to say that when you consider re-purposing a piece make sure the scale of the table works with the bed- is it too small for the bed? too large? Decide if it's useful and beautiful AND enhances the overall look/style of the room.

I don't see any Dunn-Edwards colors that perfectly match the Sherwin-Williams colors but some similar hues might be:

DE6142 Floating Feather

DE6143 Almond Lake

DE6325 Crestline

DE6326 Soft Pumice

DE6333 Hamilton Blue

 Hi Vicky, the flickr link still isn't working. Put test patches of both the neutral and blue colors on bedroom walls leading to the bathroom and decide from there. If the blue on every wall looks to dark or cool, opt for the accent wall. If the blue on every wall feels soothing and calm- paint every wall. Put test patches of the blue on every wall first and you'll see what's best for you.

We had visitors from Australia in town so I put the entire painting project on hold.  I can upload the pictures so you can see the colors and the room.  I keep getting ideas and it is driving me nuts.  My friend sho was just here suggested putting a color like a goldish color on the back wall to pick up a color in the pillow and putting the two small rugs we have on the wall behind our bed (pic attached.)  I am not too sure I like that idea.  Someone else suggested red. The red seems too dark.  I am hooked on blue but then someone said there would be too much plue with the bed covers.  I am too the point now of just doint one neutral color and accenting with the other colors.  I would love to know what you think.  (Parden the mess in the room.)  I have included pictures of the tile in the bathroom on bothe the floor and wall.  I have also included a picture of the area walinging int the room.  I hope this all helpsl.  Thanks so much for your help Shannon.  -Vicki

 

 

 

 Hi Vicki,

Try Sherwin-Williams 6191 Contented for the bedroom for a calming softness that works with your bed and brings out the colors in the throw pillow. Paint all of the walls so your eyes go to the bedding. For the bathroom, look at 7526 Maison Blanche, a creamy neutral that will show off you tiles and cabinets.
