Color Change

Posted 03-30-2009 1:22 PM by Roosevelt. 9 replies.

Hi, I am about to take on the challenge of changing the exterior color of my house from a basic white to whatever.

However, I don't want my house to stand out to much from my neighbors, but I do want it to be a nice earthy tone.

My neighbor to right painted their house green, and my neighbor to left painted theirs a desert sand color. Therefore, I was wondering if you could help me with some recommendations.

I can definitely help you. Can you send me some photos so I can see the style and details of your house? It also helps to see the landscaping and neighboring houses. Also, what state do you live in? It helps to understand the weather and vegetation of your area. I'm looking forward to hearing from you, Roosevelt.

Hi Roosevelt! Thank you for your patience as I've been traveling lately. But I've had time to think of your house and come up with two different plans for your house. For a warm glow go for Sherwin Williams 6361 Autumnal with 7526 Maison Blanche for the window trim as well as the front door and garage door trim. Then go with Benjamin Moore 2161-50 Yellow Squash for the garage door and HC-69 Whitall Brown for the front door. If you'd like something more sedate then try Sherwin Williams 7040 Smokehouse for the stucco with the same 7526 Maison Blanche on the trim. Then switch to Benjamin Moore HC-21 Huntington Beige for the garage door and finish things off with Sherwin Williams 7630 Raisin for the front door. Always test the colors before investing in the project. You'll be so happy you did. Good luck!!

Hi Roosevelt, I hope you got my suggestions. Be sure to test these and any color choices your considering for your house, especially exterior finishes. You know, Certa Pro offers free sample service once you sign up for their service. It's an enormous help.

    Hi Shanon,

Sorry for the delayed response. Yes, I did get your message and I reviewed all of those colors you suggessted. However, I'm still a little skeptical about there appearances. No offense intended, I guess I'm just afraid to be to out landish with color. Therefore, I was wondering if you maybe had a few more suggestions that you could give me. The reason I ask is because during my frequent commuting back and forth from work, I have been observing some newer built homes with some beautiful exterior colors, that really caught my eye. A few had a nice shade of green and a few others had nice shades of brown.  However, my neighbors house is green, so I am in fear of copying them, but I will still consider the colors. I also observed a color similar to toasted bread, and another color that I observed was like a Khaki Color, and another was like Sherwin Williams Cardboard colors. Any light shade of brown, Khaki or Tan that you think will look good with a white trim.

Once again, your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Test some of the colors first. They're pretty conservative colors. The sun washes out the intensity, so you really need to give a few things a try. If you feel better about green then test some that look like the houses you like. Good luck!!

Ok, I will at least test those colors first, before making any other decisions.
