trying to decide on color

Hello Shannon, I just bought a house and need to paint the house and am trying to decide on colors. The house has beautiful white crown molding throughout and I would like to accent that. I also want to do dark flooring (a coffee or chocolate color). My style is a mixture of modern&classic. I will have a mixture of modern furniture with classic paintings with gold frame. I want a light color throughout but also want to accentuate the classic details of the house (molding and beautiful windows). The house is very beige right now and I Don't want anything BEIGE. I was thinking about something very light gray, but also feel it's going to look colder. I am looking at colors like SW pearly white (SW7009) but I believe it will not offer enough contrast with the moldings, so my other option would be NACRE SW 6154, however I am worried about the overall look of that color, what kind of hue it will offer? greenish, yellow, gray? What should I do for the ceilings? white or the same color? My furniture is black leather, black grand piano... I want a classy airy feel, chic, modern and I want the moldings to POP. For the upstairs, I would like very subtle hint of colors, pink, grayish blue and green, for each room but I am not sure what colors to choose that would not break the flow of the house downstairs. I am also looking for some stronger TONES that would look good as accent colors in the rooms upstairs. I am very interested in doing a very bright color in my walking closet (something like surfer blue SW6946, but what other lighter tones of blue would go with and make a seamless transition to the master bedroom, that I would like to paint a very light grayish blue?? Do you have any ideas? Thank you very much. Elaine C. Below a pic of the family room. /Users/nanemar/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2009/Roll 3052/Wyngate 039.jpg

Hi Elaine, the pictures didn't come through so let me just give you some basic guidelines for your house. It seems that you're attracted to cooler colors such as gray and blue. The key to keeping these rooms from feeling too cool is to add cheerful accent colors and prints in orange, brown, and yellow, as well as oversized artwork that is graphic, modern, and colorful. You can also aim for slightly warmer grays without going beige. Look at tones like 7043 Worldy Gray or 7050 Useful Gray. I also like 7641 Collonade Gray. Use the wall color on the ceiling to really emphasize your molding. To keep things flowing to other rooms of the house, stay with subdued versions of the colors you like. For a pink hue, look at 6049 Gorgeous White, for grayish blue try 7663 Monorail Silver and for green consider 6163 Grassland or Comfort Gray. Look a step or two down the color card for stronger versions of color to use as accents. As for your walk-in closet, 6946 is a strong reflective color for such a small space. I'd opt for something a little softer like 6227 Meditative or a deep sophisticated choice like 6004 Mink, 7665 Wall Street, or 6011 Chinchilla. Of course, all of these choices depend on the lighting and character of your house and the furniture and decorations you're using. It's always best to work from the pieces that are going in each room. Start with a window treatment, pillow, or rug choosing colors that make the rooms feel inviting and enhance the your favorite features. I hope this helps!
