Colors for Master Bathroom

Hello! I am stumped!  I have a bathroom that gets a lot of natural light, has blue-green tile around the tub and shower and more neutral tile around the sinks on the other side of the room.  I am looking for something contemporary, warm and upbeat and also fit for possible resale in the next year or so.  Our adjoining bedroom is painted with SW ambitious amber.

There is a sloping ceiling above the tub area, which needs to be painted the same color as the wall because the sheetrock installation (done before we lived here) was not very good and the line between the two is uneven.  I am afraid a white ceiling would bring attention to the uneven line.

I've been looking at sage greens, beige (but not really a fan), cream, SW Cargo Pants (but seemed too light). I am now wondering about SW Grassland or SW Quietude to add a little blue.  You'll see I've tried a lot of samples, but I haven't tried those last two yet.

I'd love your suggestions!  Thanks!  Sorry the pictures all rotated.  They were taken with my phone.

It's tricky to make mismatched pieces go together with paint, so you may not find a perfect colorfor every element in this bathroom. My suggestion is to go with something as soft as 6148 Wool Skein, 6147 Panda White, 6176 Liveable Green, or 6175 Sagey for the walls and ceiling. Then paint the cabinets (and perhaps even the doors and door trim) in a crisp white like 7004 Snowbound.

Cost Plus (www.worldmarket.com) has some multi-green bath towels right now that could help bridge the gap between crisp white and neutrals and the dark green.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks, Shannon.  Perhaps I should even consider replacing one of the tiles to help bring it all together.  I will have to think about that.

I like your suggestion and I love crisp white.  Unfortunately, we have a lot of woodwork and built-ins throughout the house that are all painted in an off-white.  I feel like adding crisp white to one room would create a need to repaint all of the woodwork.  Do you think it could stand alone?

The lightest green in my pictures I thought was liveable green, but perhaps it was softened green. It seemed a bit too light to me, but maybe I am just having a hard time visualizing it because I've lived with the dark walls for so long.

I like the towels.  Thanks again for the reply!

If you're up for changing the shower tile, I say do it! Choose a simple inexpensive almond or light natural color to blend with the floors, trim, and countertop. And have it laid out in a subway pattern to bridge between classic and modern style. Then look at creamy neutral paint colors like 7512 Pavillion Beige, 7527 Nantucket Dune, or 6148 Wool Skein. Or you could go to a pale green with the towels to complete a fresh and light makeover.

The change will definitely be very dramatic from dark green to light or neutral. But when it comes to selling a house, most people are afraid of color. They also immediately try to picture their own things in the new space and your colors could limit their imagination. Your home doesn't suddenly have to be completely bland to sell, but it does need to have some broad appeal to get the most offers and best price.

You're on the right track. You've got this :-)
