Worn Denver ranch needs new look

Shannon - I have spent several hours ‘with you’ on your website and I appreciate your skills very much. My post World War II Denver home has always been some shade of gray, and it’s time for a change! Over the years, my front door has been white, bright yellow, black, and now red, matched to the oriental rug in the living room. Inside is all Benjamin Moore HC37, natural color woods, hardwood floors with oriental rugs in reds and blues. The decks that you see on front and back are made from Trex, and should not be painted.

As for the ‘look’ I want - I hope it can reflect that this is a home that is used - pot-luck dinners, meet the candidate, a temporary home for friends during times of transition in their lives. I would like it to be warm and welcoming. The house on one side of mine is cream colored with deep sage green shutters, on the other side is a house painted pale taupe with a darker taupe trim.

I am fond of blues, yellows, grays (obviously), and not so much into greens, pinks, or oranges. I am thinking either Wool Skein (SW6148) or Stucco (SW 7569), but am happy to think in other directions as well.

Attached are pictures of the house. Certa Pro estimator this morning recommends Sherwin Williams paints, which is fine with me. I am looking forward to suggestions that you have!

Thanks for reading the Forum! I'm glad you've enjoyed my advice.

The colors you're considering for your home are nice, but given the activities and events that are important to you, I'd like to suggest some soothing sophisticated colors that will have reassuring and even healing effects. The change will be rather dramatic so it may take some getting used to, but in the end, you'll embrace it. Here we go:

     Sherwin Williams colors

6039 Poised Taupe- siding, downspouts, garage door trim

7516 Kestrel White- eaves, gutters, fascia, window trim, garage door

    7020 Black Fox- shutters

    6333 Foxy- Front door

The deeper taupe color is healing and reassuring with deeper white for the trim and a softer black for the shutters to keep the overall look soothing and inviting. Enjoy!

Wow! That is a different look for my cozy little place. Gulp - OK, I am off to the paint store to buy samples.

Shannon - here is a picture of your recommended taupe shade on the siding of my house. Because it is old masonry siding, it resembles cordouroy, and the dark taupe looks very shaded, dark, and flat. It is not at all warm looking. I also tried some samples of Stucco (SW 7569) and Wool Skein (SW6148) and they both do not accentuate the groove effect, but mask it. I am afraid that the taupe will not do. I also found a blue for accent that I like - Distance (SW6243) or evan Naval (SW 6244). Can we do anything with these colors to give it some zip? Once again, many thanks for your good work.
