Selecting a color scheme is often the most perplexing phase of home improvement projects. People just do not know where to start when selecting colors for their homes and coordinating decor. We are finding that so many homes have connecting and shared wall space that people become perplexed on how to select wall colors that will compliment both of the rooms that it will share. We suggest first starting where your color comfort level is. We hear the term “makeover” a lot when Customer’s are starting home improvement projects. What people seem to lose site of is that no matter how small the change is, it is still something that you have to be comfortable with. So for example, if you hate the color red do not force yourself to like it when it is up on your walls. Color selection is a very personal preference. Each individual purchases their home décor around what color palette s they like best. We typically suggest sitting in the room that you are going to paint. Begin to analyze what you like or dislike about a certain part of the room. Is it the clean cut lines of your new chair rail? Or is it a particular painting that you have on the wall? Does your room feel cold or outdated? Try to find or create a focal point in the room. Then begin to analyze why you like or dislike that particular focal point. This initiates the beginning steps of selecting a coordinating color for your room. First place to start is to go to your local Sherwin Williams Store and pull some paint palettes that flow with your room that you are painting. Remember that you are just playing with color so trying different colors with no commitment can be fun! Customers are often times surprised by a color they like when it is placed upon their wall at home. Once you have picked a few color cards begin to strategically hang them randomly in your room. We like to suggest putting them next to a window to show you how natural light will impact your color. Place it in a dark corner where there is no light and see just how dark the color will appear. Continue to place the color chips in random areas until you see how the color will appear in different times of the day. As we like to say, “really get to know your color.” Typically after this process you will really get a feel for what you like and dislike. As you can see in the photographs we assisted this particular Customer with her color selections. A free service that we offer when using our company for your painting needs. This particular Customer wanted to warm up her home and to tie all the rooms together. We scheduled two different color consultations to listen and see what she wanted to accomplish. She wanted warmer earth tones but she wanted to bring her kitchen and family room together to give it a warm open feeling to all who had entered. So we made sure that all the colors would coordinate with one another because each color would be immediately seen from all who had entered through her front door. She also wanted to incorporate her stairwell as part of the family room. So we strategically placed 4 different wall colors for 3 rooms to tie them all together. We used Totally Tan (SW6115) on the newly created beadboard kitchen trim to soften and warm up the previously white rectangular kitchen. Furthermore to tie into the wall color that was being used in the living room, Camel Back (SW6122), we used a new color Copper Wire (SW7707) in the kitchen. For the grand finally to highlight her newly installed cherry hardwood floors in her entry way we used Rookwood Terra Cotta (SW2803) on the stairwell walls. We also felt that the Rookwood Terra Cotta color would be to strong for the stairwell and hallway so we added the color Anjou Pear (SW6381) to the upper hallway of her home. As you walk thru the Customer’s home you can feel the warmth from the earth tones that we decided upon. The Customer was very pleased with the end product. No matter how small or large of a project we offer our Customer’s the best possible service. From color selections to paint products suggestions, we try to personalize each painting project with the utmost respect and Customer Service possible.
